The Girl, the Guide, and the Journey Ahead

Hey there — I’m Mavee, a storyteller, travel enthusiast, and your favorite travel bestie.

I’ve always been a reader. The kind of kid who’d curl up in a small corner with a novel or stay up at 12 a.m. on a school night, completely lost in a historical romance… or a mafia one (don’t judge lol). When I finally closed the book, my mind would still be spinning — full of stories, places, and people I’d never met.

Those late-night chapters did more than entertain me — they made me dream. They made me see the world long before I ever had the chance to travel it. Somewhere between all those pages and my wild imagination, something sparked. I didn’t just want to read about other worlds — I wanted to go.

And not just anywhere — I wanted to explore Africa, my home.

Not the airbrushed “safari and sunsets” version people post about, but the real, living, breathing Africa. The jollof smoke rising from Ghanaian food stalls, the late-night rhythm of Lagos, the beaches in Senegal, the markets in Morocco, the art scenes in Nairobi. The small, beautiful details that never make it to postcards.

But then reality whispered: “Girl… you have a 9–5.”

Being a single woman in Nigeria with a regular job doesn’t exactly scream travel influencer. You can’t just wake up and say, “I’m off to Zanzibar!” when rent, NEPA, and the price of garri are all waiting to humble you. Here, travel takes work. It means saving, planning, and saying no to a few brunch dates to build something bigger.

But honestly? That’s the part I love the most.

Because travel — real travel — starts long before the plane takes off.
It starts when you make the decision to go, even if you haven’t figured out how yet.
It’s in the small sacrifices, the budgeting spreadsheets, the side hustles, the nights you spend dreaming of boarding passes.

That’s what Mavee Travel Guide is about — building the dream before the destination.
It’s about showing that African travel doesn’t have to feel far-fetched or impossible. It’s for the dreamers in their saving era, the planners still figuring things out, and the travelers who want to experience Africa with heart and honesty.

So, yeah, I may not have seen the whole world yet — but I want to, and I’m planning towards doing so. And if you’re reading this, maybe you’re planning yours too.

The Bigger Picture

My mission is simple — to make African Solo Female Travel accessible, inspiring, and truly ours.
I want to show that exploring this continent isn’t reserved for the elite or the endlessly free; it’s for the student saving up, the 9-to-5 dreamer, the curious soul who just wants to see more of life.

For me, travel isn’t about running away from reality — it’s about running toward it. It’s about meeting new people, learning cultures that feel both foreign and familiar, and finding pieces of yourself in every place you go.

Through Mavee Travel Guide, I’m building a community where we share the real side of travel — the joy, the planning, the saving, and even the chaos. Because every journey, no matter how small, deserves to be celebrated.

And if my stories can inspire even one more person to take that first trip — or reignite that spark to dream again — then we’re already winning.
